Darrell's Father Louis, was known as the first Negro (Light Skinned) to clean high-rise windows in the city of Seattle. Louis persevered and was daring enough to risk it all for his family. And he did just that while being a master at his craft.
He provided for his large family while Lucille managed the household while he was away. What's most remarkable was the time period that this was able to take place.
Louis was always a steady and present provider for his family until he passed on in his mid seventies at his home with lots of love and a great legacy of family around him.
At that time, any nationality known to have black blood was considered Negro. In New Orleans our Creole family were mixed with various nationalities over many years of history and culture.
Lots of stuff from Spain, France, and Italy and in some cases Native. Now there is 23 and Me for sorting that all out...
Louis & Lucille's first Seattle, WA home on Roy St, after a short stay in Bremerton, WA all in the 1940s
This was a big deal for the family. A black man and woman were able to move their family to the NW, establish a successful window cleaning business for Louis that raises 6 kids, buy a home and a car. This was all coming out of world war II, and through the civil rights movement.
